Cordyceps Militaris Liquid Culture
Cordyceps liquid culture syringes are filled with 10cc of robust Cordyceps mycelium. Cordyceps militaris (also known as the Zombie Mushroom) is a captivating mushroom with a rich history in traditional Eastern medicine. It is reputed to offer a variety of benefits, including one of our favourites: enhanced energy levels.
Cordyceps is a genus that includes over 400 species within the order Hypocreales, commonly referred to as vegetable caterpillars or caterpillar fungi. Cordyceps militaris specifically targets insects, developing a small fruiting body measuring 3 to 4 centimetres (approximately 1.3 inches) with a vibrant orange cap. Cultivating Cordyceps militaris is notoriously challenging due to its highly selective and unusual dietary preferences in the wild. Various non-insect substrates have been tested, including beans, lentils, quinoa, and rice. According to numerous reports and empirical tests, rice has consistently yielded the best results, with both white and brown rice being economical and promising options.
Our live Cordyceps Mushroom Liquid Culture Syringe features an isolated biological sample that has been nurtured, tested, and expanded here at Liquid Fungi. Each culture is guaranteed to be 100% free from contaminants, or we will replace it at no cost to you. Each syringe contains a high-output isolated sub-strain, ensuring maximum Cordyceps Mushroom yield and minimising incubation time. With every purchase, you will receive a sterile, individually packaged hypodermic needle for injecting into substrates. These mushroom culture syringes are commonly used by laboratories to transfer isolated biological samples between locations and substrates without the risk of contamination.
Please note that cultivating this strain can be quite tricky, as it does not thrive in autoclavable substrate bags. Cordyceps militaris requires a special substrate rich in protein, calcium, and starch. A minimal substrate can be prepared using nutritional yeast, Azomite, grains, and water.
For Petri dishes, use Malt Extract Agar or Dextrose Agar, and for spawn, consider rye berries, millet, oats, or corn.

Storage of Liquid Culture
To maintain quality, store your liquid culture syringe or jar in a sealed bag in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (35-46°F). Do not freeze, as this will kill the living organisms. While cultures can last up to 12 months, use them within six months for optimal results. Allow the culture to warm to room temperature before use.
Prevent Contamination
Keep your liquid culture in a sealed, sterile environment to prevent contamination. Handle it with clean hands or gloves, and use the entire syringe in one session with a sterile needle. If you need to reuse a needle, flame sterilise the tip. Dispose of needles responsibly.
Usage and Shelf Life
Allow your liquid culture to reach room temperature before use to encourage mycelium growth. While cultures can last for many months, we recommend using them within six months for the best outcomes. Mushroom spore syringes can also last about a year or more when properly refrigerated.
What If I See Contamination?
Healthy liquid cultures appear as white or off-white to golden translucent globules. If you see any discoloration, cloudiness, or unusual growth, the culture may be contaminated and should not be used.
